Jonathan Arledge and Aaron Bacote scored 12 points apiece as the Old Dominion Monarchs took advantage of visiting Maryland-Eastern Shore’s dry spells for a 60-43 victory Friday at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Va.

Maryland-Eastern Shore (5-8) scored the game’s first five points but often struggled after the early minutes. The Hawks scored only one basket in the final four minutes of the first half as Old Dominion (9-1) took a 31-26 lead at the break.

In the second half, UMES didn’t score a basket for 10:26. The Monarchs used a 10-3 run during that stretch to expand their lead to 46-31.

The Hawks made only six baskets in a 17-point second half.

Arledge, a forward, made all six of his free throws while Bacote, a guard, sank all four of his. Old Dominion made 15 of 16 from the line overall.

The Monarchs now have won six in a row.

UMES forward Mike Myers led the Hawks with 13 points. He was the only Hawk to reach double figures.

This was the start of a six-game road trip for UMES, which heads to St. Bonaventure Monday. Old Dominion also plays Monday when it hosts William & Mary.
