Pistons’ Van Gundy Defends Josh Smith
Detroit Pistons players and coach Stan Van Gundy said they did not hear the groans from fans when Josh Smith missed his last two shots in a 2-for-17 shooting night in Wednesday’s 98-95 victory over the New York Knicks.
But it wasn’t surprising to hear a strong defense of Smith from his coach after today’s short Pistons practice.
“I could (not) care less what the crowd thinks about shot selection,” Van Gundy said. “I’ve heard all day now about, obviously Josh went 2-for-17, but nobody’s talking about one of the top three scorers went (5-for-21), only got to the free-throw line four times and he (Smith) got 10 rebounds — and he had five assists. Nobody’s talking about any of that.”
