Report: Retiring has crossed Bryant’s mind
It’s been a difficult season for Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, and he reportedly admitted that the thought of retiring has crossed his mind.
The Lakers are already out of the playoff race, and Bryant has been taking games off to rest. He has one year left on his contract.
When asked by the Los Angeles Times whether he has considered retiring after this season, Bryant nodded and said, “I’d be lying if I said that it hasn’t crossed my mind. Right now I doubt it … but anything’s possible.”
Bryant discussed the issues that have him thinking about an end to his career.
“My body is hurting like crazy, around the clock, and if I don’t want to do this anymore, I won’t do it,” he said.
Bryant would be leaving $25 million on the table if he retired after this season.
The 36-year-old Bryant is averaging 22.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.7 assists this season, but he is shooting just 37.2 percent from the field, which would be the lowest of his career.
