Report: UConn looking to double Ollie’s salary

University of Connecticut and coach Kevin Ollie are negotiating a new deal that would double his salary, ESPN reported Friday.

Ollie made $1.25 million last season in leading the Huskies to the NCAA championship. He has coached the team for two seasons.

Ollie took over when Jim Calhoun retired and was given a seven-month contract. In December 2012, the deal was extended to five years and worth $7.5 million.

A source told ESPN that the school is looking to pay Ollie about $2.4 million to $2.6 million per year.

Ollie has been linked as a candidate for the Los Angeles Lakers coaching vacancy. The source said “it would take something substantial for him to leave.”

Ollie denied any doings with the Lakers and UConn athletic director Warde Manuel did not respond to ESPN for comment.

The Lakers reportedly have not formally contacted any candidates but several names have been associated with the opening, including Ollie.
