Rockets sign Geron Johnson, waive Mitchell
Former Memphis guard Geron Johnson signed with the Houston Rockets, who waived forward Akil Mitchell to create a roster spot.
Johnson averaged 9.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in 67 games with the Tigers. Johnson spent his junior and senior seasons at Memphis after transferring from Garden City Community College.
Mitchell appeared in 133 contests with career averages of 6.9 points, 6.0 rebounds at Virginia. Mitchell was undrafted but was on Houston’s Las Vegas and Orlando Summer League teams. He did not appear in a preseason game with the Rockets.
