Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo underwent a successful procedure to remove the screws from his surgically repaired left hand, the team announced Saturday.

The surgery was performed by team physician Dr. Brian McKeon and assisted by Dr. Hervey Kimball at New England Baptist Hospital on Saturday morning.

Rondo is out for Saturday night’s game against the Chicago Bulls, but is expected to be available Wednesday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Rondo is averaging 9.0 points, 11.2 assists and 8.0 rebounds in five games this season.

Also, guard Marcus Smart is out two to three weeks after an MRI taken Friday confirmed a left ankle sprain with bone bruising.

Smart is averaging 6.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists.
