Senior guard Aqeel Quinn scored 15 points, leading San Diego State to a 62-42 victory over Utah State on Saturday evening at Viejas Arena in San Diego.

Freshman forward Malik Pope added 13 points off the bench for San Diego State (17-5, 7-2 Mountain West Conference), which remained tied with Wyoming for first place. Sophomore guard Jalen Moore had 13 points and nine rebounds for Utah State (12-9, 5-4), which shot just 29.2 percent.

The teams exchanged leads over the first few minutes until senior forward J.J. O’Brien scored back-to-back baskets on a tip and a layup to give San Diego State an 11-7 lead with 13:20 to play in the opening period.

The Spartans maintained a slight lead over the next 10 minutes and went up 21-14 on a 3-pointer by freshman guard Trey Kell with 2:24 to go.

Neither team scored again before the break, but San Diego State came out firing in the second period. The Spartans opened the half with a 16-2 run, taking a commanding 37-16 lead on a layup by Pope with 12:40 remaining. They led by as many as 28 points over the final 10 minutes.
