Drew Gordon has fought hard for every opportunity that’s he’s been afforded since going undrafted out of New Mexico in 2012. The 24-year-old big man has appeared on the summer league rosters of four teams, most recently the Sixers, and has played stints in Serbia, Italy, and Turkey in between. He was subsequently picked up by the Sixers’ D-League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers.

Gordon was prepared to travel with the Sevens to Westchester, New York for the team’s preseason opener against the Knicks, but a call from the Sixers led to a change of plans.

“I really wasn’t expecting anything,” he said of his mindset before being called up by the Sixers on Monday. “My job was playing for the 87ers, and that’s what my main focus is. I got the call up, and now my main focus is playing for [the Sixers] once again.”
