South Carolina coach Frank Martin was suspended by the university for the Gamecocks’ regular-season finale on Saturday at Mississippi State after a verbal outburst directed at one of his players.

Martin will not accompany the team to Starkville, Miss., for the Southeastern Conference game against the Bulldogs. South Carolina associate head coach Mat Figger will handle Martin’s duties.

The fiery Martin was caught on camera yelling at freshman guard Duane Notice “answer the f——- question, a——” during the Gamecocks’ 72-46 home loss to top-ranked Florida on Tuesday night.

“The one-game suspension is a result of inappropriate verbal communication as it relates to the well-being of our student-athletes,” South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner said in a statement.

Martin, who is in his second season at the school, had never previously been suspended.

South Carolina is 11-19 overall and 4-13 in the SEC this season.
