Washington Wizards vs Oklahoma City Thunder News

The Washington Wizards remain the surprise team of the NBA season. After trading away Russell Westbrook, many assumed Bradley Beal would be the next to go, as he has landed in many trade rumors over the last two seasons ad the Wizards would blow things up and start a rebuild.

Instead, the Wizards have used those pieces to start the season 11-7 and in possession of the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference. What makes this fast start even more surprising is that it’s been in the absence of both Thomas Bryant and Rui Hachimura, two young big men the Wizards have been high on.

Montrezl Harrell is proving all of the doubters wrong and that he was perhaps misused with the Los Angeles Lakers last season. He’s averaging close to a double-double on the year, putting up 17.1 points per night to go with nine rebounds. He’s second on the team in rebounding only to, wait for it…. Kyle Kuzma.

That’s right, Kuzma is the leading rebounder for the Wizards. Kuzma hasn’t seen an uptick in scoring, but perhaps that’s not his game. I’m sure the Wizards will take nearly a double-double from Kuzma every night, especially after the Lakers were so keen to move on from him.

As for the Thunder, I like what they did in the draft this past summer with Josh Giddey. Unfortunately, it still looks like they’re years away from a finished product, or even get to a point where we think we have an idea of what Sam Presti is up to with all of those draft picks. This writer just hopes it doesn’t cut into Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s prime too much.

Washington Wizards vs Oklahoma City Thunder Preview

It’s no secret that the Thunder are a team looking to tank. They’ll surprise you here and there, but that’s still the main focus. Luguentz Dort can make life hell for anyone as a defender, but only three players are averaging double figures for the Thunder.

One of those players being SGA, who has been upgraded to questionable for tonight.

Here are some trends this season to help you in your decision to make a pick for this game from TeamRankings:

The Wizards are 3-6 ATS as an away team, 1-2 as an away favorite.

The Thunder are 6-3 ATS as a home team, 5-3 as a home favorite.

The Over is 3-6 when the Wizards are on the road, 1-2 as an away favorite

The Over is 4-5 when the Thunder are home, 4-4 as a home underdog.

Washington Wizards vs Oklahoma City Thunder Picks

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think Oklahoma City is the play here. If SGA is going to play, I expect him to get around his average of 20 per game. The Thunder don’t have many scorers outside of him, but Washington isn’t quite full of scorers itself.

This might be a game where you want to plug your nose, as it could get ugly. However, that’s why I’m on the under as well in case it feels like SGA is limited in any way.
