Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Nash expects to play on Tuesday despite a leg injury that forced him to leave Sunday’s game, ESPN.com reported.
However, Nash, who turned 40 this month and has been sidelined by injuries much of the season, has told friends he plans to retire after this season, the New York Daily News reported.
Nash has another year remaining on his contract that would pay him $9.7 million next season.
On Tuesday, Nash suggested he is not ready to retire.
“Right now I have no intentions to stop playing,” he said, according to Lakers.com.
Nash has played in just nine games this season because of back and leg ailments and is averaging 8.2 points and 5.0 assists.
He returned to action February 4, but had to leave Sunday’s game with a leg injury. Nash does not expect to miss any additional time, though.
—The Minnesota Timberwolves announced that head coach Rick Adelman will miss Monday night’s game against the Houston Rockets due to personal reasons. Adelman is expected to return to the Wolves’ bench for Wednesday’s game against Denver.
Wolves assistant coach Terry Porter will serve as the acting head coach for the game against the Rockets.
—The Memphis Grizzlies decided to take power forward Zach Randolph off the trade market, USA Today reported.
Memphis reportedly recently turned down an offer by the Phoenix Suns.
Randolph is a possible free agent this summer as he can opt out of his contract. He has said he wants to stay with the Grizzlies but has not officially decided if he will remain with the team or opt out of his deal.
—The Philadelphia 76ers promoted Jake Reynolds to vice president of ticket sales and service, the team announced.
Reynolds is responsible for sales and service of full season tickets, partial plans and group sales. He reports directly to chief revenue officer Chris Heck.
