The William & Mary Tribe extended its winning streak to five straight and ended Wofford’s five-game winning streak in defeating the Terriers 66-62 on Saturday at Kaplan Arena in Williamsburg, Va.

After starting the game down 14-0 and trailing 38-28 at halftime, Wofford climbed back in the second half and cut its deficit to 64-62 when sophomore guard Eric Garcia hit a 3-pointer with 40.9 seconds left.

The Terriers then made the mistake of fouling William & Mary senior guard Marcus Thornton, who proceeded to make one of two free throw attempts. Wofford senior guard Karl Cochran’s 3-pointer to tie the game hit the back of the rim and bounced over the backboard, and Tribe sophomore guard Omar Prewitt made a free throw to seal it.

William & Mary (5-1) made eight of its first nine shots and finished shooting 65.6 percent (21 of 32), including 5 of 11 from behind the 3-point arc.

Thornton finished with a game-high 25 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while Prewitt scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and junior forward Sean Sheldon tallied 10 points and six rebounds.

As for Wofford (5-2), junior guard Spencer Collins led the way with 18 points and was one of three Terriers to finish in double figures. Garcia and senior forward Lee Skinner both scored 13.

William & Mary will play four of its next five on the road, including two games next week. The first of those contests comes Dec. 3 at Richmond.
