Reaction: Arron Afflalo Agrees to Sign with the Magic

Free agent Arron Afflalo has agreed to a one-year deal with the Orlando Magic, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Terms of the contract were not immediately available, but it figures to be a near minimum deal as the Magic didn’t project to have much available cap space left following recent signings of Shelvin Mack and Jonathon Simmons.

Afflalo, 31, previously played two years for the Magic during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. In 137 games with the Magic, Afflalo averaged 17.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He most recently played last season for the Sacramento Kings.

Afflalo is a prototypical ‘3-and-D’ player that will give the team added depth on the wing and an additional three-point shooter. He is a career 38.6 percent three-point shooter and shot 41.1 percent from beyond the arc last season with the Kings. While Afflalo has yet to match his career-high 18.2 points per game set with the Magic during the 2013-14 season, he figures to give the team another veteran presence to a young locker room and a viable option off of the bench.

The addition of Afflalo marks the third free agent signing for the Magic this offseason. They previously signed Mack and Simmons, while also adding rookies Jonathan Isaac and Wesley Iwundu. The addition of Afflalo brings the team’s roster to 15 players.

The Magic acquired Afflalo in a four-team trade from the Denver Nuggets during the Dwight Howard deal in August of 2012 that sent Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Magic traded Afflalo back to the Nuggets on draft night in 2014 in exchange for Evan Fournier.

Since being traded back to the Nuggets, Afflalo has had stops in Portland, New York and Sacramento.
