The Hofstra Pride remained undefeated at home and improved to 3-1 overall with a 93-71 win over the rival Wagner Seahawks on Sunday at the Mack Sports Complex in Hempstead, New York.

The Pride were led by junior guard Juan’ya Green, who hit his first five shots from the field and first six from the line in the dominating win. Green finished with a game-high 24, while junior forward Ameen Tanksley added 17.

After shooting a scorching 72.7 percent from the field in the opening half, the Pride opened the second half with an early run to put the game away. Hofstra padded its 17-point halftime lead to 23 at 55-32 before the first TV timeout of the second half.

The Pride then capped a 16-1 run late in the second half on a jumper by forward Andre Walker with 4:59 left. At that point, Hofstra led 83-52.

Wagner (1-3) continued to struggle with its perimeter defense. Entering Sunday’s game, Seahawks opponents had hit 21 3-pointers on 42 percent shooting. The Pride, meanwhile, shot 71.4 percent from 3-point range in the opening half and finished 10-for-17 beyond the arc (58.8 percent).

Freshman guard Aaren Edmead led Wagner in scoring with 15, while senior guard Marcus Burton added 13.

Sunday’s victory marked Hofstra second consecutive victory over a local rival. On Friday, Hofstra prevailed in exhilarating fashion when senior guard Dion Nesmith hit a jumper with three seconds left to lift the Pride to a 66-65 victory over Stony Brook.

Green, a transfer from Niagara, has finished with at least 19 points in three of his first four regular season games in a Pride uniform. The 6-2, 195 pound guard added a game-high 11 assists.

Hofstra closes a three-game, five-day stretch on Tuesday at South Florida.
