Pacers vs Pistons Odds

This game comes at the right time for the Indiana Pacers. They were in cruise control against the New York Knicks Monday evening, finding themselves up 14 points in the third quarter.

But suddenly, the Pacers stopped scoring and the Knicks made their run to cash the Knicks -3 bet I gave out on this site. Was I nervous? Yes. But once the Knicks really started to hone in on the defensive end of the floor, I knew it still had a chance, albeit a low one. Sometimes you’re on the right side of those types of runs, sometimes the wrong. Fortunately, we were on the right side Monday.

If you’re a fan of the Pacers, it’s easy to feel like the team has underachieved so far. On paper, they look like quite the team. Malcolm Brogdon has looked like an all star, averaging 22.4 points per game with 7.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists. Even when he’s not scoring, he finds the way to impact the game in different ways, whether it be his facilitating or defensive impact.

Sabonis has taken a small step back in both the scoring department, down from 20.3 last season to 18.5 this season. With their guards now healthy, Sabonis hasn’t been asked to utilize his playmaking ability and has seen his assists go from 6.7 a year ago to just 3.9 this season.

Caris LeVert has been inconsistent for Indiana. His durability has been a concern since last year, and he missed the first handful of games for the club this year. Again, this Pacers team is solid on paper, but seemingly don’t actually play well and compliment each other.

As for the Pistons, not a lot has gone right either. Jerami Grant leads the team with 17.9 points per game. That’s down from his 22.3 per game last year, mostly because he doesn’t have the ball in his hands as much. Last season, he was their high-usage guy, but this year that role is now Cade Cunningham’s.

The main problem is that nobody else has really stepped up for the Pistons. Cunningham has some off-and-on games with the potential to score in the high teens or low twenties, but we’ve also seen some disasters from him too. Their fourth leading scorer is Kelly Olynyk. That should be all I have to say about Detroit.

Pacers vs Pistons Team News

A team that’s dependent on a player like Kelly Olynyk is probably on a bad course anyway, but the Pistons got some bad news last Friday that Olynyk suffered a grade-2 MCL sprain in his left knee that will keep him sidelined for at least six weeks.

Saddiq Bey was already the team’s second-leading scorer. With Olynyk now out, that should create even more opportunities for the second-year Villanova product.

As for the Indiana Pacers, they’ll be waiting to hear on the status of rookie small forward Chris Duarte. Duarte had a hot start to his pro career, averaging almost 17 per game through his first handful of games, but has since seen some single-digit performances before suffering a shoulder injury.

Duarte is questionable and will be a game-time decision for the Pacers tonight against the Pistons.

As for T.J. Warren, the club hopes he could make his debit as early as late December.

Pacers vs Pistons Pick

This is a tough situation. When looking at these two teams and the states they’re in, you’d think there’s no way the Pistons could cover this spread. But when you’re rivals such as these teams are, you can almost throw that out of the window. But this should be a game the Pacers hope to get back on the winning side of things. I’ll take the Pacers and lay the points.
