Lafayette will have a lot to celebrate on New Year’s Eve after picking up a 92-78 road win on Wednesday afternoon in its Patriot League opener at Army to close 2014 on a high note in West Point, N.Y.

The Leopards (9-3, 1-0) handed the Black Knights (9-3, 0-1) just their second at home this year. Lafayette raced to a 43-33 halftime lead, but the margin grew to 18 with just under nine minutes to play.

Lafayette was led by guard Seth Henrichs, who was 8 of 13 from the field. The Leopards shot 54 percent from the field, including 58 percent (10-of-17) from beyond the arc.

The Leopards also got double-figures scoring from guard Joey Ptasinski with 18 points — including 4 of 6 from 3-point range — and three steals. Forward Dan Trist added 17 points and 10 rebounds, and guard Bryce Scott chipped in 10 points.

Army got solid games from guards Dylan Cox and Kyle Wilson, center Larry Tomey and forward Kevin Ferguson.

Tomey led all Black Knights scorers with 17 points, including 5-of-6 shooting from 3-point range. Tomey also led Army in rebounding with seven boards. Cox finished with 12 points, four rebounds and five assists. Wilson added 11 points and Cox had 10 points.

The Leopards now have a 41-26 lead in a series with the Black Knights that dates to 1926. Wednesday was payback from a season ago when Army swept the series.

Lafayette returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Navy. Army hits the road for a Saturday game at Loyola-Maryland.
