Devin Martin scored 20 of his game-high 27 points in the second half to spark a rally as the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks defeated the visiting North Carolina A&T Aggies 69-58 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game on Monday night at the Hytche Athletic Center in Princess Anne, Md.

North Carolina A&T came into the game having lost eight of its first nine games but started quickly, scoring nine of the first 10 points and taking a 34-26 halftime lead.

Martin, a guard, and UMES (4-7, 1-1) turned things around in the second half. North Carolina A&T (1-9. 0-2) held a 41-35 lead before the Hawks scored 16 of the next 18 — thanks to nine from Martin.

Martin finished the game with four 3-pointers and went 13 for 16 from the free-throw line. He also added 12 rebounds to complete a double-double.

UMES outscored the Aggies 43-24 in the second half to clinch its third victory in the last four games. The Hawks won just six games all of last season, and they have already got four victories this year.

Guard Devon Walker (14 points) and forward Mike Myers (12 points) both helped the Hawks.

North Carolina A&T forward Bruce Beckford also had a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

UMES will be off until Saturday when it hosts Navy. The Aggies next play at Old Dominion on Sunday.
