With no centers in the starting lineups for this year’s NBA All-Star Game, three big men were among the reserves named to the team on Thursday.
Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard was added to the Western Conference roster and Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert and Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah to the Eastern Conference bench for the Feb. 16 game in New Orleans.
Joining Howard as West reserves were teammate and Rockets shooting guard James Harden, San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker, Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge and point guard Damian Lillard, Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki and Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul.
The East roster included Brooklyn Nets shooting guard Joe Johnson, Washington Wizards point guard John Wall, Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh, Atlanta Hawks forward Paul Millsap and Toronto Raptors shooting guard DeMar DeRozan.
First-time All-Stars are Lillard, Cousins, Wall, Millsap and DeRozan. Nowitzki will make his 12th appearance. Bosh was selected for the ninth time and Howard for the eighth time.
The starting lineups, which was announced last week, feature Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant, Clippers forward Blake Griffin and Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love in the West and Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving, Heat guard Dwyane Wade and forward LeBron James, Pacers forward Paul George and New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony in the East.
Bryant’s knee injury will prevent him from playing and the league will name a replacement.
Coaches in each conference voted for the reserves. The starting lineups were voted on by fans.
