Nets news: 15-year veteran Paul Millsap agrees to deal

Power forward Paul Millsap has agreed to a deal with the Brooklyn Nets. The 15-year veteran was also considering the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls as well. In the 2020-21 NBA season, the four-time All-Star averaged nine points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in 56 games played.

Last season, Millsap shot 47.6 percent from the field and 34.3 percent from three-point range. In the 2010-11 season, while playing for the Utah Jazz, the forward scored a career-high 46 points in the team’s 116-114 overtime win over the Miami Heat. On April 13, 2010, in the team’s 103-94 victory versus the Warriors, the forward finished with a career-high 24 rebounds.

Player statistics, awards and salary

In the 2021 NBA Playoffs, the 36-year-old averaged 6.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in the Denver Nuggets’ first-round series versus the Portland Trail Blazers. However, the team was swept by the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference Semifinals series. Millsap averaged 6.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists against the Suns.

The forward was selected 47th overall by the Utah Jazz in the 2006 NBA Draft. The last time he was selected to the All-Star Game was back in 2017, and he was selected All-Defensive Second Team in 2016. On December 2, 2020, Millsap re-signed with the Nuggets. He earned $10 million last season, and the forward has spent the last seven seasons with the organization.
