Atlanta Hawks restricted free agent John Collins has agreed to sign a five-year, $125 million contract to remain with the organization. This contract also includes a player option in the fifth year. In 63 games played in the 2020-21 season, Collins averaged 17.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. His field goal shooting percentage average was 55.6 percent as well.
The 2020-21 Hawks finished 41-31 (.569), ranking first in the Southeast Division and fifth overall in the Eastern Conference. In the second-round playoff series against the first-seeded Philadelphia 76ers, the 2017 19th overall pick averaged 15.1 points, 10 rebounds and 36.1 minutes played per game. In Game 7, the Hawks defeated the 76ers 103-96 on the road, pulling off one of the biggest upsets of the 2021 postseason.

Last season, Collins earned $4,137,302. Moreover, the 23-year-old power forward exercised his 2020-21 team option on October 19, 2019. However, on November 5, 2019, Collins received a 25-game suspension without pay for violating the NBA’s Anti-Drug Program. He tested positive for growth hormone-releasing peptide-2 (GHRP2). Regarding offensive production, the soon-to-be fifth-year player has proven his effectiveness. Thus far, his best season was back in the 2019-20 season, when he averaged 21.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game in 41 games started. At this point of his career, his only NBA accolade was qualifying for the All-Rookie Second Team back in 2018.
