The Los Angeles Clippers have signed Sindarius Thornwell to a three-year, $3.8 million deal, a league source told Basketball Insiders.

The first two years of the contract are fully guaranteed and the third year of the deal has a July trigger date, a league source told Basketball Insiders.

The SEC Player of the Year averaged 21.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.1 steals and one block per game. Thornwell shot 44 percent from the field overall and 39 percent from beyond the arc for the Gamecocks in his senior season.

Thornwell was selected No. 48 overall in the draft by the Milwaukee Bucks who traded him to the Clippers in exchange for cash considerations on draft night.

Thornwell led South Carolina to wins over Marquette, Duke, Baylor and Florida before losing to Gonzaga in the National Semifinal. Thornwell averaged 23.6 points, seven rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.2 blocks per game during the NCAA Tournament. In addition, Thornwell shot 47 percent from the field overall and 41 percent from beyond the arc during the tournament.

The 6-foot-5 rookie guard joins a Clippers team that is retooling following the trade of Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets and the re-signing of Blake Griffin. The Clippers acquired Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams, Sam Dekker and Montrezl Harrell for Paul and each is expected to be a key rotational player for the team this season. Thornwell will compete with Beverley, Williams, Austin Rivers and Jawun Evans for backcourt minutes. At times, Thornwell could also play as a small forward in small ball lineups.
