Sports betting in Kansas is not quite as black and white as one would hope. They’ve been incredibly close to fully opening their doors to betting within the state, but like so many others before them, have had to put all that hard work on hold until 2022 thanks to COVID.
In the meantime, you can legally bet online with any offshore sportsbook that accepts players who reside in Kansas. We’ve created this guide to highlight everything you need to know about Kansas sports betting and where you can do it both legally and safely.

Best Kansas Sportsbooks Reviewed
Kansas is a proud sporting state and we recognize that betting on sports within the state is incredibly popular. Below we’ve included a range of sports betting options that are going to suit betting on Kansas-based sporting teams and also sports from all over the world.
We’ve then ranked the sites in order of our preference, but please remember that you need to take note of the betting site that works best for you. Use our reviews as a guide and then decide which fits your betting needs the most.
1) MyBookie – Best Overall for Kansas Sports Betting
Our top pick for sports betting in Kansas has to be that of MyBookie. This is a brand that’s going from strength to strength and is now widely regarded as one of the best in the country.
MyBookie comes with an incredible range of promotions, none better than the $1,000 sign-up bonus that you claim with your initial deposit. The bonus requires wagering 10x before it expires within 15 days.
The sportsbook ranks as high as it does because of its coverage of baseball, football and soccer. With these three sports including the three professional teams within the state (Kansas City Chiefs – football, Kansas City Royals – baseball and Sporting Kansas City – soccer) it makes sense this provides a backbone for the sportsbook.
The ties to soccer betting are a key part given there are teams in the top flight, second-tier (Sporting Kansas City II) and women’s game (Kansas City NWSL). Betting options for the sport are vast and coverage came with over 100 markets to choose from with most games.
The inclusion of the prop builder has been one of our favourite features to test. Here you’re able to select between numerous sports and markets to create interesting parlay bets, usually at competitive price points as well.
All these tie in with a decent range of banking options to choose from. Visa and Mastercard lead the way, but Bitcoin and bank wire are viable alternatives. Deposits start from just $20 and withdrawals from $50.
- Massive range of sports to choose from
- Competitive odds structure across the board
- Good looking sportsbook
- Tied in with fantastic promotions for new and existing players
- Limited in terms of live betting markets
2) Bovada – Great for Mobile Betting
Bovada’s depth and attention to detail are what make this our second pick for Kansas sports betting. The design of the online platform and the mobile app is about as good as you will find and one of their many highlights.
To kick things off we wanted to note their incredible rewards program. They are the only sportsbook to offer one and with it, you earn points as you bet. You’re then able to convert these points into cash rewards and bonuses to be cleared within the sportsbook.
Betting limits within the sportsbook are going to be plentiful for most, but also limited for some. Max bets are $5,000 for NFL and NCAA, and $1,000 for NBA lines. Most other sports are capped at $500.
Targeting underdog odds is going to pay huge dividends with Bovada. They get a massive number of recreational bettors, meaning that they can stack favourites to cover this. As a result, odds for longer-priced bets are usually higher than most of the competition.
One of the areas that Bovada excels in is college betting. The lineup within Kansas of college sports is impressive, to say the least, so betting on the likes of the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas City Roots and the Rockhurst Hawks is all possible.
It’s not perfect though and the lack of banking of options will discourage some. Visa, Mastercard and Bitcoin are the only options to deposit and check or Bitcoin as the only option to withdraw. That being said, deposits start from just $10 (the lowest we have reviewed) and withdrawals are processed in a matter of hours.
Bovada comes in with another massive welcome offer worth up to $1,000. The bonus is a 50% match of your opening deposit and needs wagering 5x in 30 days before it expires.
- The best-looking sportsbook by a mile
- Great range of international sports to compliment US-based sports
- Biggest range of markets for most domestic games
- Best used for prop bets and specials
- The sportsbook can run a little sluggish at time
3) BetOnline – Best Odds for Kansas Sports Bettors
BetOnline is another stalwart of the betting scene across the US and we are happy to say that they are able to accept players from Kansas.
The sportsbook is huge. They cover a huge number of games from a lot of sports, so like the other two, there is always plenty going on.
For us, the highlight is without doubt the odds. We test a wide range of prices and found that punters at BetOnline on average were 5% better off from their winnings.
The speed at which they post their betting lines is another positive for us. Most sportsbooks post up a day or two out (Bovada on Wednesdays for that week’s NFL games as an example) but BetOnline is able to get prices almost a week in advance.
You get access to a massive range of banking options at BetOnline. In fact, this is the most that we’ve seen. Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Check, Ripple and a number of Bitcoin options are just a few that you can access. Payments start from just $20 for both deposits and withdrawals.
Player Props is one of the latest features from the sportsbook. This allows you to take prop bets from multiple sports and create parlays.
Finally, you can claim a welcome bonus worth up to $1,000 with BetOnline. The bonus is a 50% match of your first deposit and you get 30 days to wager through tour bonus 10 times before it will expire.
- The best when it comes to odds and odds
- Good range of sports to choose from
- Hits the big four hard in terms of coverage
- Good ties to casino and horse racing
- Dated looking sportsbook
- Can lack market coverage for some sports
4) Sportsbetting.ag – Good All-Round Coverage and Odds
Sportsbetting.ag was another relatively easy pick for our best Kansas sports betting sites. They do an awful lot well and whilst we realize that this site won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, for the hardy bettors amongst you, you’ll probably quite like this one.
Motor racing is one of the sports that Sportsbetting.ag cover about as well as anyone. Of course, Kansas is famed for its ties to the Kansas speedway that both NASCAR and IndyCar Series races. The majority of races are located in the futures section months before they start.
Betting limits are an area they are famed for. They take bets as low as $1 and accept massive bets on NFL games of up to $25,000 ($15,000 max up to Thursday). Limits on other sports do drop, but you can still get up to $10,000 on NBA and $3,000 on NHL.
We liked the integration of their sports news section, and a lot of the articles are tied to betting, giving up odds and even advice on who to potentially bet on. They also have a decent enough futures betting section, which ties nicely in with a lot of the betting articles focussing on the week ahead.
The welcome bonus at Sportsbetting.ag allows you to claim a 50% match on your opening deposit worth up to $1,000 in bonus money. This bonus then needs to be wagered 10 times within 30 days before it will expire.
On top of this, you can get a lifetime reload bonus should your account balance drop to zero. The bonus is a 25% match up to $250 in bonus cash and comes with a 6x rollover requirement.
- Strong range of sports
- Nice integration with betting news
- Futures betting is one of the best
- The dated-looking may put some people off
5) BetUS – The Modern-Day Sportsbook
BetUS can be placed just about anywhere on this list. They’ve got one of the best-looking sites for sure and we think that this will tick a lot of boxes for the younger generation of sports bettors.
It’s not all style over substance though and the market coverage is one of the best that we have tested. We like that they aren’t just about US sports and include a ton from around the world, which is great to see. Kansas teams are going to enjoy this coverage with the likes of the NFL, MLB and NHL being three of their main sports.
Banking options on the site are limited to Visa, Mastercard and a range of Bitcoin options. Checks and bank transfers are likely going to be the most popular withdrawal methods, but Bitcoin shouldn’t be overlooked here as they are processed much faster (hours not days) and have higher limits (up to $10,000) per transaction.
Finally, BetUS is one of the best when it comes to promotions and offers. Their welcome offer is worth up to $2,000 plus you get a risk-free bet included as well. You need to wager the bonus 10x in 14 days to clear the full balance.
- Stunning looking sportsbook and great design
- Works well on mobile
- Good range of international sports
- Solid odds for bets
- Might be a little lightweight compared to others on this list

Is Sports Betting Legal in Kansas?
The cold hard facts are that sports betting is not legal in Kansas. There have been many attempts to get this overturned over the last few years and prior to COVID hitting they were incredibly close to making it one of the now many legal states in the US.
However, like so many of them at the minute, there is very little movement and it’s likely not something that is going to be passed before 2022. Kansas has seen their Senate pass a bill to allow both retail and mobile sports wagering. However, a committee hearing on this has been adjourned twice because of COVID so nothing has been set.
But there is an option for people in Kansas to bet online and that comes from offshore betting. This is where sportsbooks, like the ones that we’ve included on this page, will accept players from Kansas since sports betting is not illegal.
Like a lot of US States, sports betting is not illegal on sites that are located outside of Kansas. As long as these sites will accept Kansas players, then it is legal to use them without the worry of prosecution.
Kansas Sports Betting Timeline
- 1970’s – Sports betting was largely outlawed within the state until the 1970s where charitable and social gambling was widely accepted. There was no legislation nor licenses to go with any of this.
- 2007 – The formation of the Kansas Expanded Lottery Act. allowed gambling within the state to increase. It came with the legalization of electronic gaming machines in racetracks and also permitted the construction of 4 commercial casinos, located in “gaming zones” dotted around the state.
- 2015 – DFS was legalized within the state. The first talks regarding sports betting returning for 2018 occurred, but nothing was finalized.
- 2018 – Kansas attempted to be one of the first states to legally allow sports betting following the overturn of PASPA in May.
- 2019 – Agreement was failed to be reached regarding who would run sports betting within the state.
- 2020 – Biggest push came in 2020 where the Senate passed a bill to authorize sports betting within the state of Kansas. Due to COVID, the bill failed to materialize, and it was decided it would need to be resubmitted.
- 2021 – Kansas is still pushing for a run at legal sports betting. Many expect this to go through by 2022.
Gambling Tax in Kansas
Gambling taxes are relatively high in the state and come in no lower than 5% regardless of income or marital status. Casinos have to currently pay at least 27% on profits but this number will likely be adjusted should sport betting be approved.
Tax under the new legislation – should it pass – has been a hot topic for debate. Initially, this was set to 10% for online sports betting, but the house was pushing for 20%.
What Sports Can You Bet on in Kansas?
Sports betting in Kansas allows you to bet on any and every sport in the world. The only limitation on what you can bet on will be the Kansas sports betting site that you choose to bet with.
Some of the most popular sports are that of American football, basketball, baseball, ice hockey, soccer, tennis NASCAR and boxing.
Horse racing is usually a separate entity from that of most main sportsbooks. Of course, you can bet on this as well, but you will likely need to access a dedicated section of the sportsbook to do so.
eSports Betting in Kansas
eSports betting is taking off around the US and you’re going to be able to get access to a huge range of games and markets. The biggest games are League of Legends, Counter-Strike and more recently, Fortnite.
Most sportsbooks are cashing in on the popularity of these games and in turn, are offering massive coverage for tournaments all over the world. The majority of Kansas sports betting sites will have access to this and you should be looking to take advantage of these betting opportunities.
Types of Betting Markets
You’re going to enjoy a lot of betting markets from the sportsbooks that we’ve outlined on this page. These include:
- Props – Prop betting is where you bet on markets that are usually made up by the sportsbook. This might include events within a match, such as most touchdown passes thrown by a quarterback or most strikeouts by a pitcher.
- Money line – The money line bet is your straight-up bet. This is where you pick one team or player or match result to come in and you bet based on straight odds. No handicaps are involved.
- Points Spread – The points spread is where the sportsbook chooses a line of points in favour of one team and against another, then you pick the team to win based on the spread. For example, if you back a team at -7.5 points, you need them to win the game by 8 or more points for your bet to win.
- Team Points (over/under) – For team points betting you will need to pick the over or under or total points for the bet to win. So, if the line was set at 150 and you chose over, then you would need 150 or more points for the bet to win.
- Total Points – This is like team points, but instead of just using the points for one team, you combine them both. This then gives the total points line.
- Futures – These markets are where you bet on events that are some time in the future. For example, betting on who will win the Superbowl in May.
Bonuses at Kansas Sportsbooks
Bonuses are one of the most important things to consider when you choose a new sportsbook. All bonuses come with a range of T’s and C’s attached which makes some more lucrative than others.
Matched deposit bonuses are the most common and for this, the sportsbook will match your initial deposit in the form of a bonus. An example of this would be the welcome offer from MyBookie where they will match your first deposit 100% up to $1,000.
Free bets are another common bonus and for this, the sportsbook will allow you to have a bet at their expense. It’s unusual that they just give these away, so you usually must make a deposit and place a bet before they will give you a free bet to use.
No deposit bets are where the sportsbook will give you money for free. You read that right, just for signing up they will apply bonus money into your account without having to deposit any cash. It’s worth noting that these are very rare but highly lucrative, so if you do come across an offer like this, snap it up.
|Sportsbook||Bonus||Promo Code||Minimum Odds||Bonus Expiry Time|
|MyBookie||100% deposit match up to $1,000 25% Reload bonus up to $500||MYBY 50 MYBY25||N/A|
|Bovada||Up to $1000||BVD1000||N/A|
|BetOnline||100% up to $1000||BOL1000||N/A||30 Days|
|Sportsbetting.ag||100% up to $1000
25% reload bonus up to $250
|BetUS||125% up to $2,500||JOIN125||N/A||14 Days|
Kansas Mobile Betting Apps
Mobile betting is going to be an option for you when sports betting in Kansas. In fact, all the sportsbooks that we’ve recommended on this page include brilliant mobile betting options.
Some of the apps will need to be downloaded directly from your respected app store, however, not all of them are on there. To get access aside from the app store simply, visit the sportsbook in your mobile browser and you will be redirected to where you need to be.
Live Betting and Streaming in Kansas
You’re going to get access to both live betting and live streaming in Kansas, although the latter is quite rare. For streaming, you’re going to be looking at the likes of horse racing for the most part as none of the options that we recommend can live stream other sports.
Live betting on the other hand is much more accessible. This is where you’re going to make good money if you’re able to spot trends in games and then reacting within the live betting market.
How to Compare Kansas Sportsbooks
We spend an awful lot of time reviewing Kansas sports betting sites. As part of our review process, we have wats that we review each sportsbook, and this allows us to compare them before finally getting results. Below are some of the criteria that we use.
Range of markets
Market coverage is very important as this offers depth for the sportsbook. We include looking at the number of sports on offer as well as the number of markets that you can bet on to be included with this.
Bovada is probably the best in the business when it comes to the range of markets. They have more than most sportsbooks and also cover more sports than most as well.
Bonuses are one of the main reasons that we encourage people to choose a certain sportsbook. Some can be highly lucrative and have thousands of dollars at stake to add to your bankroll.
The best offer at the minute has to be that of MyBookie, with up to $1,000 in bonus cash up for grabs linked to your first deposit at the sportsbook.
Getting money safely in and out of the sportsbook is imperative. We look to see which sportsbooks are offering the best range of banking options and who are thinking outside of the box, with the likes of Bitcoin and mobile payment methods such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Licensing & security
All the sportsbooks that we cover on this page are fully licensed and they have incredibly high security as a result. We conduct our own tests, but most licenses will only be distributed to sites that have gone through rigorous testing for security and safety.
Are Online Casinos Legal in Kansas?
Casino falls under the same banner as sports in that it is not illegal to play casino games. The requirements are that you need to do this on sites that are based offshore and accept players who reside in Kansas.
Most of the sportsbooks that we’ve spoken about and reviewed on this page include an online casino of sorts. You will be able to access this once you have created your account and logged in.
Land-Based Gambling in Kansas
Kansas includes a number of land-based gambling activities throughout the state. Below we’ve listed what is currently accessible within each gambling sector.
Kansas Land Based Casinos
Kansas has a thriving land-based casino sector. The casinos are widely regarded as some of the best in the country and many people flock from neighbouring states just to use them.
There used to only be tribal-run casinos, but in 2007 the government authorized 4 private casinos to be built in plots operated within the state. In total, there are now 9 casinos in the following locations:
- 7th Street Casino
- Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway
- Boot Hill Casino
- Golden Eagle Casino
- Prairie Band Casino and Resort
- Kansas StartCasino
- Kansas Crossing Casino and Hotel
- Sac and Fox Casino
- Casino White Cloud
The range of casinos that are on offer in Kansas is a positve sign for the future of sports betting. There is a strong chance that the casinos will be used to house online sports betting brands, as they are in many states that have already legalized sports betting.
Horse racing is a much-loved sport in Kansas. There are three tracks that are currently active within the state and at each, you are able to place trackside bets. Horse racing betting is not linked to online sports betting, so the legislation that allows this is different.
The three horse racing tracks are:
- Anthony Downs
- Eureka Downs
- Woodlands Track
DFS in Kansas
Daily Fantasy Sports is in fact legal in the state of Kansas. It’s been legal since May 2015 and players are able to sign up with sites that are both based offshore and any that are based within the state of Kansas.
The reason behind the rules being different here is that by federal law they do not see DFS as being gambling and instead requires skill to be good at it.
Horse Racing Betting in Kansas
Horse racing betting in Kansas is one of the few things that are legal within the state. There aren’t any tracks open at the time of writing, but you can access sites that host horse racing betting, which is one of the main reasons why most of the sportsbooks on this page have separate sections altogether for horse racing.
Sports betting in Kansas is likely going to be approved in the not-too-distant future. COVID has done passing the bill no favours, but given how close they were to get it through the first time, it shouldn’t create too many stumbling blocks this time around.
For the time being, players in Kansas are still able to enjoy online betting sites which are based offshore. This is by no means illegal as long as the betting site accepts players from the state. The relaxation of online gambling in the state is likely going to be huge and we would expect to see the state thrive within the sector once the doors open.
To pick one, we would have to choose MyBookie as the best Kansas sports betting site. They have a huge range of sports and markets to choose from, a massive welcome bonus and one of the best-looking sites in the business.
