  • 35% bonus for all cryptocurrency deposits
  • Amazing selection of basketball betting options
  • Great live betting platform
  • Incredibly high betting limits available

Cons:

  • Fees applied to non-crypto withdrawals

2. MyBookie – Superb selection of live betting options

mybookie louisiana

Following closely behind BetOnline is MyBookie, our number two rated online sportsbook for those looking to bet in Louisiana. As you’d expect from a site we rate so highly, you’ll find a fantastic array of betting options, including NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL. However, where MyBookie really stands out is live betting. Their live betting platform is exceptionally intuitive to use, plus they offer loads of markets on most major sporting events, including all NBA games. If you’re looking to bet live on sporting action in Louisiana, MyBookie is the place for you!

MyBookie also offers a nice welcome bonus to new players. You’ll be able to double your first deposit at the site, up to a maximum of $1,000, plus you’ll also receive a $20 casino chip to use playing one of the many games found on the site. You’ll also find reload bonuses, horse racing betting rebates and more, making this one of the best Louisiana sports betting sites for bonuses and promotions.

You’ll also find that MyBookie ticks pretty much every other box, as it offers great customer support, simple transactions and a safe place to gamble. No wonder it’s number two in our list of Louisiana sports betting sites!

Pros:

  • Welcome bonus worth up to $1,000
  • Loads of other bonuses and promotions
  • Amazing live betting platform
  • Many markets on NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL
  • Deposit using a range of cryptocurrencies

Cons:

  • Poor selection of eSports markets

3. Bovada – The largest range of betting options around

bovada louisiana

Bovada is a superb all-rounder. By this, we mean that the site offers a great array of betting options – perfect if you like to spread your bets over several sports. NBA does, of course, feature strongly at their site, as do the NFL, MLB and NHL. The site is also strong on soccer betting, plus there’s a whole section of the site dedicated to betting on horse racing. Live betting is also offered, and the live betting platform is one of the better ones available to Louisiana gambling fans.

When it comes to bonuses, Bovada is particularly good for users of Bitcoin. This is because they offer a Bitcoin welcome bonus worth $750 to all first-time depositors. Don’t worry if you prefer using more traditional currency, as there’s also a welcome bonus for you too, but it’s only worth $250.

We should say that Bovada went through a period where it wasn’t seen as the most trustworthy operator. We’re glad to say that this period is now finished, and they have proven themselves to be an honest and safe place to play.

Pros:

  • Bitcoin welcome bonus worth a maximum of $750
  • $250 welcome bonus for non-Bitcoin users
  • Wide selection of markets across many sports
  • Fantastic live betting platform
  • Superb for fans of horse racing betting

Cons:

  • Poor history, but now a top sportsbook again
  • Depositing using credit card has high fees

4. Sportsbetting.ag – A superb site for basketball betting fans

sportsbetting.ag louisiana

Sportsbetting.ag is another big player among US offshore sportsbooks and has been allowing people in Louisiana to bet for years. Basketball fans will love betting there, as it is perhaps the top NBA betting site around, offering loads of markets on every single game, as well as plenty of futures. Live betting on NBA is also simple and enjoyable at Sportsbetting.ag.

This is a site that’s particularly friendly towards players looking to deposit using Bitcoin, as there are plenty of bonuses aimed directly at them. However, everyone will be able to claim the first deposit bonus, which adds 50% to your first deposit and is worth up to $1,000.

As with all the other sites we recommend, you can also trust Sportsbetting.ag completely. They’ve been offering sports betting to US gamblers for many years now, and they wouldn’t have remained so popular if they were doing some wrong.

Pros:

  • Fantastic selection of NBA betting markets
  • Great live betting platform
  • Nearly always has competitive odds
  • Welcome bonus worth up to $1,000
  • Many cryptocurrency bonuses

Is Sports Betting in Louisiana Legal?

Louisiana has always been proud to be a little different, but when it comes to sports betting, they’re certainly following the crowd. This is because, as in many other states across the country, they’ve recently legalized sports betting. The voters took to the polls in November 2020 and 56 of the 64 Louisiana parishes voted to make sports betting legal, both in land-based venues and on mobile. The parishes that decided against sports betting will be geofenced when it’s launched, so people in these parishes will have no access to mobile betting.

The introduction of the Louisiana sports betting bill means that everyone, from those deep down in the bayous to partygoers on the streets of New Orleans, will be able to enjoy betting on their chosen sports. Each of the 19 casinos in the state will be able to apply for a betting license, which will allow them to not only offer land-based betting inside their venues, but also have two online skins. This essentially means that each casino can partner with two different online sportsbooks. One other entity will also be able to apply for a license, bringing us to the maximum of 20 licenses permitted.

Currently, there is no concrete date for the commencement of sports betting in Louisiana. There had been hopes it would start before the 2021 NFL season, but Hurricane Ida forced dates to be pushed back. There is now hope betting will begin in October 2021. If you’ve been wondering when will sports betting be legal in Louisiana, there’s no concrete answer, but it will be soon.

  • May 20, 2021. HB697 passes the Senate and is sent to Gov. John Bel Edwards for his signature.

Gambling Tax in Louisiana

When Louisiana sports betting begins, gamblers will be taxed on money they win. Those who manage to win money in a land-based sportsbook will be required to pay tax of 10% on their winnings. Mobile winners will have to pay a higher tax rate of 18% on any money they manage to win. This taxation is in addition to the federal tax on gambling winnings of 24%.

What Sports Can You Bet on in Louisiana?

Quite simply, you’ll be able to bet on pretty much every sport when you head to a Louisiana sports betting site. You will, of course, find a large range of markets on the NBA, plus NFL, MLB and NHL betting are also covered extensively. Soccer is also covered in detail at most sites, giving players the chance to bet on the MLS, EPL and much more.

Other sports you’ll be able to bet on at Louisiana sportsbooks include motorsports, boxing, MMA, tennis and golf. Sports that are popular overseas, but less popular in the US, are also offered, such as cricket, rugby and Aussie rules. Essentially, if you’re a fan of a sport, you’ll almost certainly be able to find markets on it somewhere.

Esports Betting in Louisiana

As well as betting on standard sports, you’ll also be able to do some eSports betting at most Louisiana sports betting websites. Some of the sites will even allow you to bet live on various contests. You’ll find all the most popular eSports waiting to be bet on, including CS:GO, FIFA, League of Legends, DOTA 2, and Rainbow 6. Available bets range from simple moneyline bets to prop bets.

Types of Betting Markets

If you’re looking for sports betting Louisiana offers a whole host of opportunities. By this, we don’t just mean many options on which sports to bet on, but also on the various types of bets you can make. Take a look below to find out about six of the most common bet types placed by sports betting fans in Louisiana.

  • Moneyline. The simplest of all bets, a moneyline bet is simply a bet on which of the competitors will come out victorious. So, if you bet on the Pelicans to beat the Houston Rockets and they do, you’ll win a prize.
  • Spread. This is similar to a moneyline bet, but with one team given a head start. So, the Pelicans might have a spread of -4.5 when playing the Rockets, who would have a spread of +4.5. If you bet on the Pelicans to win, they must win by five points or more for your bet to be a winner. Bet on the Rockets and you’ll win providing they don’t lose by more than four points.
  • Over/Under. This is a bet on whether something will be over or under a specified total. For example, you could bet on whether there will be more or less than 205.5 points in the previously mentioned game between the Pelicans and the Rockets.
  • Parlay. This is a bet containing more than one selection. For example, you might bet on the Pelicans to beat the Rockets, and the Lakers to beat the Kings. Both parts of the bet must be correct in order for the parlay bet to be a winning one.
  • Future. A future bet is a bet on something that won’t happen for a considerable amount of time. For example, you might bet on the Pelicans winning the Southwest Division before the NBA season has even started.
  • Prop. Finally, a prop bet is a bet on an occurrence during a game which doesn’t directly affect the result. So, for example, you might place a bet on Brandon Ingram to score over 30 points in a game, or on Ingram to score the most points in a game.

Bonuses at Louisiana Sportsbooks

You’ll find many different bonuses at Louisiana sports betting online sites, with the biggest generally being the welcome bonuses, which are designed to persuade new players to sign up. There are three bonus types at sportsbooks more popular than the rest, and we’ve explained them below.

Matched Deposits

Matched deposit bonuses add a specific percentage to a deposit you make. So, for example, you might receive a 150% bonus on a deposit of $50, meaning you’d get an extra $75 in bonus funds to play with.

Matched deposit bonuses are generally the biggest, plus they usually have the most favorable terms and conditions. Sites can afford to offer large bonuses with decent terms and conditions as players are risking their money too, and the sites know that more players will lose money than win.

All the sportsbooks we’ve recommended on this page offer matched deposit bonuses. An example would be the 50% match bonus at BetOnline, which can be worth up to $1,000. As it’s a 50% bonus, you’d need to deposit $2,000 to get the maximum of $1,000 in bonus funds.

Free Bets

Next up, we’ve got free bets, which are exactly what they sound like. They’re bets given to you by the sportsbook, which can be used to place a bet of a certain value. They are most commonly given to those who have lost a previous bet, as something of a consolation prize. For example, a site might say that anyone who backs a horse that finishes second will get a free bet on a different race.

The attraction of this bet type is clear to see, as these bets are risk-free. However, you will have had to previously risk some money to receive one, meaning that they’re not the same as no deposit bets, which are described in the next section.

You’ll find a few free bets offered at sports betting sites in the US, such as the one at Sportsbetting.ag, which gives you a free $25 bet if your first live bet using their platform is not a winning one.

No Deposit Bets

Finally, there are no deposit bets. As the name tells you, this is a bet given to you without you ever needing to make any deposit. They are usually given to players as soon as they sign up with a site, as an incentive for the player to sign up.

No deposit bets aren’t usually very large, but they’re completely free, so there can’t be any complaining. Terms and conditions are usually quite strict, as the sportsbook would lose a huge amount of money if everyone managed to cash out their winnings.

Currently, there are no sportsbooks in our top 10 offering no deposit bets. However, you will be able to claim some free bets, which are similar.

Louisiana Mobile Betting Apps

Every sportsbook in our top 10 list gives you the chance to play using a mobile. In fact, some even offer a better experience when you’re using a smartphone or tablet! A few Louisiana sportsbooks also give you the chance to download a mobile app to your Android or iOS device, meaning you’ll be able to head to the sportsbook in question faster than ever. These apps should be free to download – never pay for a betting app.

Mobile betting apps are fantastic, as they give you the chance to bet on an equally large selection of markets as their desktop counterparts. What’s more, the odds displayed on the mobile app will be the same as they are on both the desktop and mobile sites. You’ll also be able to use the app for things like depositing, withdrawing, and contacting customer support, plus you’ll be able to claim all bonuses available to desktop players – and occasionally some exclusive to mobile gamblers!

Live Betting & Streaming in Louisiana

Live betting is one of the most exciting features found at online sportsbooks, and it’s available at all the Louisiana sports betting sites we’ve recommended on this page. Live betting allows you to bet on many different markets as a game is in progress. The odds for these markets change constantly, to reflect the state of the game. The markets can be anything from moneyline bets on the winning team to prop bets on all kinds of eventualities.

Live betting adds a huge amount of excitement to every encounter. Not too interested in the Northwest encounter between the Timberwolves and Nuggets? Open up the live betting platform and start placing bets – you’ll soon find that your interest in the game increases significantly. Live betting is also great if you’ve got great knowledge of a sport, as you can use this knowledge to read the game and work out what’s likely to happen next.

Many online sportsbooks in Louisiana also offer live streaming of sporting events. While you won’t find NBA matches being streamed live – the major networks pay huge sums of money for rights to these – you will often find less popular sports being broadcast, often from foreign competitions. Combine live streaming and live betting and you’ll have a great time, even if you’re betting on teams or players you’ve never heard of before!

How to Compare Louisiana Sportsbooks

If you’re looking for sports betting in Louisiana, you’ll find plenty of options. So, how do you choose between them? Well, there are five major areas to look at, all of which we’ve considered when creating our list of the top 10 Louisiana sportsbooks. You can find out about them below.

Range of Markets

Firstly, you’ve got to look at the range of markets on offer. After all, why sign up with a sportsbook if they don’t offer great markets on your preferred sports? All top sportsbooks should comprehensively cover NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL and various soccer leagues, along with many other sports. What’s more, they should offer live markets, as well as standard betting markets. You should also be able to find a range of betting options for each game, including moneyline bets, prop bets and much more.

Bonuses

Any top betting site in Louisiana will offer a welcome bonus to new players. However, don’t just look at the welcome bonus, as the best sportsbooks, including most in our top 10 list, should offer plenty of bonuses to claim after your welcome bonus is finished, such as reload bonuses and rebates. While the size of a bonus is clearly important, you should also check the terms and conditions, such as the wagering requirements, to make sure you’re being given a fair deal.

Payment Methods

Before you sign up with an online sportsbook, you need to make sure it accepts your preferred payment method. You’ll find that most sportsbooks offer a range of options, including credit card, e-wallets and cryptocurrency. However, don’t just look at the methods on offer – also look to see if any fees are charged for depositing and withdrawing, and how long transactions take.

Live Betting & Streaming

Every top online sportsbook should now give you the chance to bet on sport live. You should check to see which sports live betting is available for, along with how competitive the odds are and how easy the live betting platform is to use. You should also see if a site offers live streaming of sports, if you’re interested in watching sport on the betting platform.

Licensing & Security

Your online safety is hugely important, which is why you should confirm that a betting site is safe and secure before signing up with them. You can do this by seeing if they’re regulated by an official organization. You should also make sure any site uses SSL encryption, which protects your details during transactions.

Sportsbooks at Louisiana Casinos

There are casinos in Louisiana, but there are no Louisiana casinos with sports betting. However, this will change very soon, as sports betting has been legalized in most Louisiana parishes. Each casino will be able to apply for a sports betting license, which will allow them to have a land-based sportsbook on their property. It will also allow them to partner with two other companies to create two online sports betting sites.

Are Online Casinos Legal in Louisiana?

There are no online casinos in Louisiana and there are no current pieces of legislation looking to legalize them. However, many offshore betting sites allow those in Louisiana to play online casino games, such as slots, roulette and blackjack. In fact, all the sportsbooks we recommend on this page also have online casinos.

DFS in Louisiana

A bill legalizing daily fantasy sports in Louisiana was signed into law in June 2020 by Gov. Edwards. DraftKings was the first DFS site to receive its license from the Louisiana Gaming Control Board and launched in the state in July 2021. There are not currently any other  sites that have daily fantasy sports betting in Louisiana.

Horse Racing Betting in Louisiana

There are currently four racetracks in Louisiana, and it is legal to bet on horse racing at these tracks. The racetracks all also offer casinos of different sizes. It is also legal to bet on horse racing in Louisiana online and via mobile, and there are many sites dedicated to this. You should also remember that the sites we’ve recommended on this page also offer horse racing betting to their customers, with the best sportsbook for horse racing being GTbets.

Conclusion

Sports betting in Louisiana is now completely legal, but the state hasn’t quite managed to get everything in place to launch it yet. However, you’ll still be able to enjoy sports betting at many offshore sites, including the ones we’ve mentioned on this page. All these sites are fantastic places to bet on a whole range of sports, including the NBA, plus many have big bonuses and all offer a safe place to gamble.

So, if you’re looking to find a place to bet on the NBA, or any other sport, in Louisiana, you should check out the names we’ve listed on this page. Currently, our number one site for sports betting in Louisiana is BetOnline, so that’s where we’d recommend signing up with them first.
