Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Nash will return Friday night for a home game against the Washington Wizards, according to a Yahoo! Sports report.

A nerve root issue in his back and hamstring injuries have kept Nash off the court for all but 10 games this season, but he plans to give it another go after coach Mike D’Antoni said recently that he did not expect the two-time NBA MVP to play again this year. The Lakers have 15 games remaining in the regular season.

The Yahoo! Sports report indicated that Nash will back up point guard Kendall Marshall.

The 40-year-old Nash, who last saw action on Feb. 11, recently admitted that he wants to continue playing next season in order to collect the $9.7 million in the final year of his three-year contract.

The Lakers also expect guards guard-forward Nick Young and center Jordan Hill back from injuries on Friday night.

In Nash’s 10 games this season, he is averaging 7.6 points and 4.7 assists.
