Forward Cleveland Melvin, DePaul’s leading scorer this season, is no longer enrolled at the school, the university announced Monday.

Melvin was suspended for the past four games due to a violation of team rules, though his exact infraction wasn’t revealed.

According to the Chicago Tribune, coach Oliver Purnell criticized the team’s senior leadership following the Blue Demons’ 84-74 defeat against Xavier on Jan. 20 — the final game in which Melvin appeared.

DePaul lost each of the four games of Melvin’s suspension, extending its losing streak to six games. The Blue Demons are 10-14 overall, 2-9 and tied for last place in the Big East.

Melvin averaged 14.3 points and five rebounds as a freshman in 2010-11, earning Big East Rookie of the Year honors. He averaged 17.5 points and 7.4 rebounds as a sophomore, 16.6 and 6.8 as a junior and 16.7 and 6.4 as a senior.

A 30-point game against Butler on Jan. 9 represented Melvin’s season high. Melvin added 25 points against the Musketeers in his last game.
