Cavaliers star Kyrie Irving said Wednesday he has regrets about his relationship with former Cleveland coach Mike Brown, who will now face him in the NBA Finals as the interim head coach of the Golden State Warriors.
“It was a learning experience, to say the least,” Irving said. “I kind of regret being part of that, because he was just trying to teach me a lot of things that I didn’t necessarily understand as a 21-year-old in the NBA.”
Brown coached Irving for one season, in 2013-14, and the two had a rocky relationship as Brown pressed Irving to make changes to his game. At one point in that season, Brown advocated that Irving be traded.
At the end of that season, Brown was fired, in part because the franchise was concerned about Irving’s willingness to extend his contract with Brown as the coach. After Brown was replaced by David Blatt, Irving agreed to a five-year, $80 million extension.

Ben Simmons, Donovan Mitchell Headline All Rookie Team
Philadelphia’s Ben Simmons and Utah’s Donovan Mitchell are unanimous selections to the NBA’s All-Rookie team. The two guards received all 100 first-place votes from a panel of sports writers and broadcasters. Both players helped their teams reach the second round of the playoffs.
Boston’s Jayson Tatum also was selected Tuesday to the first team, falling one vote short of unanimous. Simmons, Mitchell and Tatum are the three finalists for the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award.
Iguodala (Leg) Sits Out Warriors Game 4 Loss
Though the Golden State Warriors had upgraded Andre Iguodala to questionable from doubtful earlier Tuesday, the veteran missed his team’s 95-92 Game 4 loss to the Houston Rockets.
Iguodala sat out because of a bruise on his lower left leg, suffered when he banged knees with James Harden in Game 3.
Report: Warriors List Andre Iguodala Doubtful for Game 4
The Golden State Warriors have listed Andre Iguodala as doubtful for Tuesday’s Game 4 against the Houston Rockets.
Iguodala sustained a left leg contusion when he banged knees with James Harden in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals on Sunday night.
A Warriors source said the bruise got worse overnight, so Iguodala was held out of practice on Monday. The bruise is slightly below the knee.
Iguodala had an X-ray on Monday and it came back clean, but the team still listed him as doubtful Monday evening.
