Paul Pierce cracked a smile when he heard what had been said a few minutes earlier in the despondent visitors’ locker room at Verizon Center on Saturday night. His game-winning bank shot over Atlanta point guard Dennis Schroder, which catapulted the Washington Wizards to a 2-1 series lead over the Hawks, was “lucky,” Schroder claimed. Pierce flashed his resume in response.

“I guess Schroder’s going to say that because he’s a little young,” said the 37-year-old Pierce, who debuted in 1998 when Schroder was 5 years old. “He’s only in his second or third year so he hasn’t been able to see it over the last 17 years.”
