Hawks retain Brand, add Bazemore

The Atlanta Hawks re-signed forward/center Elton Brand and also signed free-agent guard Kent Bazemore on Tuesday.

The contract terms for both players were not disclosed by the team.

Brand played in 73 games and started 15 for the Hawks last season. He averaged 5.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.0 assists and a team-leading 1.2 blocked shots per game.

A 15-year NBA veteran, Brand has started 863 of 1,005 career games with the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks and the Hawks. The two-time All-Star’s career averages are 16.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.8 blocks.

Among active players, Brand ranks 16th in points (16,661), sixth in rebounds (8,877), second in offensive rebounds (3,267) and fourth in blocked shots (1,795).

Bazemore spent last season with the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers. Between the two teams, he averaged 6.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 67 games. He started 15 of 23 games for the Lakers after he was acquired on Feb. 19 and averaged 13.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals.
