The Lafayette Leopards broke open a close game midway through the first half on its way to knocking off the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights 82-61 at the Rothman Center, in Teaneck, N.J., on Sunday.

The Knights (2-3) led 15-13 on forward Myles Mann’s jumper with 8:38 gone in the game, but the Leopards (4-2) scored the next 14 points to jump ahead 27-15 en route to a 46-37 lead at the break.

Fairleigh Dickinson got it to within four points early in the second half, for the last time on guard Darian Anderson’s basket with 18:18 to play. Lafayette went on a 20-5 run to lead 68-49 and FDU never got closer than 16 after that.

Forward Dan Trist had a double-double for Lafayette, with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Bryce Scott finished with 13 points. Lafayette shot 51.8 percent from the field and 82.6 percent from the free throw line as the team rebounded from a disappointing 22-point loss to Yale in its last game.

Guard Matt McDonald’s 15 points led three FDU players in double figures. The Knights turned the ball over 13 times, shot just 34.8 percent from the field and made six of its 24 three-point attempts.

FDU has now lost three in a row since beginning the season with back-to-back victories over St. Joseph’s and FDU-Florham.
