Lakers to Use Exception Around Trade Deadline?

(Lakers GM Mitch) Kupchak also told the Los Angeles News Group the Lakers plan to apply for a disabled player exception for a season-ending injury to Xavier Henry ($550,000). Kupchak also said the Lakers will apply for the NBA’s hardship exception, which grants teams the right to add 16 players on their roster when they field four players with overlapping injuries. Lakers forward Ryan Kelly will miss at least five more weeks because of a torn right hamstring,

“We would have to find a better player than who is on our roster now since you have to cut somebody,” said Kupchak, referring to the NBA allowing a maximum of 15 players on a roster. “I’m not sure those players exist as free agents. When we get something closer to the trade deadline, there might be something there.”
