NOTES: New Orleans coach Monty Williams was an assistant coach on Mike Krzyzewski’s staff for the U.S. national team and worked with Portland G Damian Lillard during training camp last summer. “I like his demeanor,” Williams said. “Sometimes you have to check his pulse and see if he’s alive. He’s a cool cat.” … Lillard was named Western Conference player of the week on Monday after averaging 28 points and 8.7 assists while shooting .588 as the Trail Blazers went 3-0. … Portland F LaMarcus Aldridge, who missed Saturday’s victory over Brooklyn with an upper respiratory illness, played Monday. That set up a matchup of two of the league’s top power forwards in Aldridge vs. the Pelicans’ Anthony Davis, who ranks among the NBA’s top five in scoring (24.5, fifth), rebounds (11.8, second), steals (2.25, fourth) and blocked shots (4.13, first). … Portland coach Terry Stotts, asked if Davis is the league’s best all-around player: “LeBron James is still a pretty good player, and holds that mantle for the time being.” … New Orleans C Omer Asik (back) and Portland F Nicolas Batum (knee) did not play. F Allen Crabbe started in Batum’s place.
