#30 Golden State Warriors: Damian Jones
With the No. 30 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors select Damian Jones.
The Golden State Warriors selected Damian Jones with the 30th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. Jones is a 20-year-old center from Vanderbilt, who averaged 13.9 points and 6.9 rebounds a game as a junior.
He’ll join the 73-win Warriors after being selected with the final pick of the first round. Golden State has Andrew Bogut under contract next season, but Festus Ezeli (restricted) and Marreese Speights (unrestricted) are both free agents this summer.
If the Warriors do find that Oklahoma City Thunder free agent Kevin Durant wants to join the roster, Bogut could be a salary cap casualty (via trade) to open up room.
With so much roster uncertainty at center, Jones could find an opportunity to play, even on a veteran squad.
Jones was named First Team All-SEC twice. He’s third on the Vanderbilt’s all-time field goal percentage list, shooting 56.6 percent for his career.
The Warriors, who are still recovering from their difficult Game 7 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, close out the first round of the draft with Jones. The Utah Jazz own Golden State’s second-rounder (60th).
