Thiis time (Miami HEAT) Hassan Whiteside took a step back, not because of a lack of aggression, but rather out of common sense.
“Just trying to stay out of foul trouble so I can help my teammates and just stay in the game longer,” Whiteside said with a smile at Tuesday’s practice, closing with 16 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots Monday.
Even if it meant going against some of his instincts, including conceding a basket or two inside.
“It’s tough sometimes, because I know the other coaches, they see I’ve got a foul, so whoever I’m guarding, ‘Give him the ball and let’s try to see can we get him another foul,’ ” he said. “Yes, it was a great satisfaction to be able to do that.”
