Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is expected to miss an extended period of time after an MRI revealed he has a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

The team made the announcement Monday but would not say if he needed surgery or how long he will be out.

On Sunday, the Hornets announced Kidd-Gilchrist had a separated shoulder, but an MRI upon returning to Charlotte confirmed the torn labrum as well.

The Hornets say Kidd-Gilchrist will meet with team orthopedist Dr. Marcus Cook on Tuesday to determine the next steps for recovery and rehabilitation.
