Boston University surged out to a large lead and never looked back in beating visiting Lafayette 88-54 on Saturday afternoon at Boston University’s Agganis Arena.

Boston University moved to 17-8 overall and 10-2 in the Patriot League, while Lafayette had its brief two-game winning streak halted, falling to 6-17 and 2-10 in the league.

The Terriers were led sophomore forward Justin Austin’s 17 points and senior guard D.J. Irving, who contributed 16 points.

Lafayette junior guard Seth Hinrichs led all scorers with 19 points.

Boston University led from start to finish, opening a 21-7 lead with 11:46 left in the first half on an Irving jumper. With 7:51 left in the half, the Terriers were up by as much as 31-8.

The Terriers were 37-of-66 (56 percent) from the field, while Lafayette made just 18 of 55 (32 percent).
