Returning to a surging team following a five-game absence, (Deron) Williams said he initiated the conversation with Jason Kidd about coming off the bench, explaining that he didn’t want to upset the applecart.

It all worked out for Williams and the Nets (17-22), who comprehensively pummeled the Knicks at the Garden on Monday, 103-80.

Asked if he’s willing to continue this setup with Shaun Livingston and Alan Anderson starting in the backcourt, Williams – who hadn’t come off the bench since his rookie season seven years ago – shrugged, “Why not?”
