Georgetown C Smith out for Academic issues
Georgetown center Josh Smith will not play again this season because of academic issues, Hoyas coach John Thompson III announced Friday, according to CBSSports.com.
The 6-10 Smith was benched for the Hoyas’ Jan. 8 game at Providence. Now he is officially out for the rest of the season. It is unclear whether Smith might play for Georgetown next season.
He was averaging 11.5 points and 3.4 rebounds this season. Georgetown was 10-3 when Smith played and 1-4 when he did not play.
Smith transferred from UCLA to Georgetown midway through last season. He was allowed to play for the Hoyas this season by the NCAA, with two full seasons of eligibility remaining.
