Fired Warriors assistant taped conversations

Former Golden State Warriors assistant coach Darren Erman was fired earlier this month because he was violating a team policy of secretly recording conversations between coaches and players, ESPN reported Tuesday.

The 37-year-old Erman recorded informal discussions between players and coaches and also among coaches without anyone’s knowledge or consent, according to the ESPN report.

It is not known what happened to the recordings and how or if Erman used them in any way. Team officials found out in March that he was recording conversations and Erman indicated he had been doing so for about three weeks.

A week after the recordings were discovered, Erman was let go by team management.

“As previously stated, Darren Erman was terminated due to a violation of company policy,” the Warriors said Tuesday in a statement. “We were unaware of the violation, and when made aware, we took immediate action. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Yahoo Sports! reported that the Boston Celtics hired Erman, who served as coach Mark Jackson’s second assistant with the Warriors, as its director of scouting.

In late March, the Warriors demoted first-year assistant Brian Scalabrine to its Development League affiliate in Santa Cruz because of his reported refusal to speak with other coaches, including Jackson.
