Report: Coppin State parting with Mitchell
Coppin State will not renew the contract of coach Ron “Fang” Mitchell, the Baltimore Sun reported Friday.
Mitchell guided the Eagles to four NCAA Tournament appearances and two NITs in 28 years.
Coppin State won at least a share of nine MEAC regular-season titles in the 1990s and had 11 straight winning seasons from 1988-99. The Eagles’ biggest NCAA Tournament victory came in 1997 when, as a No. 15 seed, they upset No. 2 South Carolina.
The past decade has not been kind to Coppin State. The Eagles have finished below .500 in nine of the past 10 seasons.
Coppin State finished 12-20 this season.
