Report: Stoudemire opting in with Knicks
New York Knicks power forward/center Amar’e Stoudemire will decline the early termination option in his contract and return to the team for the 2014-15 season, according to Comcast Sportsnet.
Stoudemire and forward Carmelo Anthony both have the option to terminate the final year of their contracts and become free agents. Anthony plans to opt out.
By opting in, Stoudemire will make $23.4 million next season.
Stoudemire has been plagued by injuries in recent years. He told the New York Post that he wants to get back to the level he played three seasons ago when he averaged more than 25 points per game.
“For sure, my goal is to return to the All-Star Game and compete for a championship in the postseason.”
Stoudemire averaged a career-low 11.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last season.
