Junior guard Earl Peterson scored a career-high 21 points and forward Christian Thomas added 13 to lead Loyola (Ill.) to a 58-46 nonconference victory over Jackson State on Saturday night at Gentile Arena in Chicago.

The Ramblers (6-2) won their second straight and for the fourth time in five games.

Jackson State (1-8) dropped its sixth straight despite guard Raeford Worsham’s team-high 15 points in the first meeting between the programs.

Loyola made 12 of 22 shots from the field (55 percent) and Peterson scored 10 first-half points on the way to a 30-27 halftime lead.

The Ramblers used a 11-0 run during a span of nearly four minutes to open a 47-33 lead with 8:47 left in regulation. Jackson State never got closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

Loyola is now 4-0 all time against teams from the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Jackson State plays the second of three games in five days on Monday at Drake. Loyola hosts Abilene Christian on Wednesday in the second of three games in seven days.
