Houston has head coach Kevin McHale under contract for one more year and now the Rockets want to add former Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins to the staff as an assistant.

Hollins who took the Grizzlies to the Western Conference Finals in 2012-2013, has been courted by the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers, who are looking for a head coach. He has rejected previous opportunities to be an assistant coach.

Hollins, known for his defensive strategy, could help improve the Rockets’ defense, which ranked 12th this past season.
