Guard George Martin scored 15 points and Long Island University-Brooklyn was too much for NJIT defensively in a 65-49 victory on Sunday in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Guard Martin Hermannsson added 12 points and forward Nura Zanna added 11. LIU outrebounded NJIT 46-37 and made 16 free throws to help ice the game.

The visiting Highlanders went just 18 for 58 from the floor and scored 18 points in the second half in suffering their second consecutive defeat. NJIT wasn’t any better from three-point range (4 for 19) or the free throw line (9 for 19).

Guard Ky Howard scored 15 points, but no other NJIT player finished in double figures.

The Blackbirds, which broke a six-game losing streak to start the season with an 83-70 victory over Maine in its last game, won its second in a row.

NJIT held a one-point lead with six minutes left in the first half and trailed by only 32-31 at the half.

The Highlanders took a 37-35 lead five minutes into the second half, but LIU then scored 11 straight points to take command.
